"Gene's art does not transform the real into the imaginary; his art delivers the imagination into our reality."
Twenty-five years after leaving The Art Institute of Philadelphia and a career as a residential contractor, Gene returned to his easel. Self-taught, Gene is constantly learning and trying new techniques to successfully express his imagination onto canvas. In his time away from his easel, he has played in two amateur pool leagues and enjoys guy-time with his sons.
Born in 1967 in Tarpon Springs, Florida, with his early childhood in both Macon, Georgia and Las Vegas, Nevada, Gene has lived in New Jersey most of his life. His travels, love of music and appreciation of shape and color, have strongly influenced his art and willingness to experiment. Gene prefers to think of himself and his work as a pseudo-naive, akin to Henri Rousseau. However, much of Gene’s work borders on the surreal, akin to Dali.
In 2019, Gene recommitted himself to his art and to actively promoting his work - creating a website, reaching out to galleries and responding to commissions. Being a professional artist is new to him: In the past, he gave away his art to friends and family.
