On My Easel

Xeno Practice Flowers

These 4 x 6 oil paintings on canvas hardboard began as a practice session, exploring ideas how to paint the urn flowers for the Wake of Xenophobe 4. When I finished the round cone, I knew the color wasn’t going to work with the composition. I didn’t want to toss it incomplete, so I moved forward, painted the background and the leaves.

On my second attempt, I decided on the purple and peach colors, shown here. In the same cone painting style that I used in the first attempt, I couldn’t leave them incomplete – so they are now little works unto themselves. Now they are all friends!
